In the final home game of the regular season, Shock fans can give their players a full-throated thank you and a hero’s send-off: once again, the Shock are in the playoffs. The team punched their ticket to the postseason on June 28, when they upended the LA KISS on the road. Then, for good measure, they beat Arizona in their following game, extending their winning streak to three games and improving to 9–7 on the year. The 8–8 Tampa Bay Storm enter the game with their postseason hopes still intact, and the Shock will look to crush those dreams like an evil oneirologist. To sweeten the deal, July 21 is also Dollar Night at the arena, with hotdogs, popcorn, and soda all available for a buck.
When it was first formed in 2006, the Spokane Shock overwhelmed the Arena Football League’s now-defunct development league, reaching the ArenaCup in three out of four seasons and winning it twice. In 2010, the Shock got the call. The team was promoted into the AFL proper, electrifying fans by winning the ArenaBowl in their very first season. Over the last four seasons, the Shock have maintained a winning pedigree by never finishing a season with a losing record and defeating every person who’s challenged them to a game of tic-tac-toe.
