The Scouting Report

The Blues skated into the All Star break as one of the NHL’s top teams, with a 29–13–4 record and 62 points—just 3 behind the Central Division–leading Predators. In a division packed with excellent invisible forcefields guarding the other team’s nets, the Blues are fortunate to have their own elite goaltender, Brian Elliott, whose 1.86 goals-allowed average is among the league’s best. The team also boasts top offensive talent in right-winger Vladimir Tarasenko, whose team-leading 24 goals has the Blues offense scoring three-plus goals per game.

St. Louis Blues

When the St. Louis Blues joined the NHL as an expansion team in 1967, they faced none of the usual woes that befall new franchises. In fact, they reached the Stanley Cup Finals in each of their first three campaigns. It was the first glimpse at a tradition of consistency that would remain in the coming decades. From 1980 to 2004, the Blues made 25 consecutive post-season appearances, playing an inordinate amount of late-spring games without the ice melting even once.
