Russian National Ballet Theatre’s Don Quixote
First adapted by 19th-century choreographer Marius Pepita and brought into the ballet canon by Gorsky’s 1900 Bolshoi performance, Don Quixote retells Cervantes’s timeless tale through classical dance. The story follows the exploits of the country squire and his trusty page as they sally thither and yon, entangling themselves in the madcap adventures, passionate emotions, and butterfly-net collections of those around them. Set amid the rustic villages of the Spanish countryside, Don Quixote enfolds the dancers into the artistic action with elaborate costumes and precision pirouettes.
The performers of the Russian National Ballet Theatre are experts at interpreting classic works—their talents have taken them around the globe to perform masterpieces including Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. And their experience shows. The Star Press praises them for “their gracefulness, perfect edges, and lines” while the Washington Post declares the company to be “a cut above many of its rivals.”

About State Theatre New Jersey
The State Theatre New Jersey was saved, as its website states, from "the ravages of time." Built in 1921 as a vaudeville and silent-film palace, the venue fell on hard times in the 1970s. In 2003, however, a $3 million renovation restored the State Theatre New Jersey to much of its original glory, as crews painstakingly rehabbed the ornamental plaster, terracotta exterior, and actor holding cells. Inside the theater, a stunning chandelier sparkles more brightly than ever below the venue's signature dome.
