As the ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, the Stockton Thunder has thrilled Central Valley hockey fans since 2005, rattling opponents and launching the careers of seven NHL players. Fueled by four consecutive playoff appearances, the Thunder entered the 2011 campaign seeking to glide even further into the postseason behind team captain Jason Morgan, whose resumé includes stints juggling miniature igloos with five NHL squads and MVP honors of Antarctica’s all-continent team. Through 18 games, wingman Kevin Baker skates among the conference’s top scorers with seven goals, and goalie Olivier Roy leads a stifling Thunder defense, allowing a frugal two goals per game. December 31 spectators enjoy a New Year’s Eve celebration, complete with post-game fireworks.
