The Scouting Report
On April 11, the Stockton Thunder will close out their 2014–15 season with a showdown against the Bakersfield Condors. Of their 12 prior meetings with the Condors this season, the Thunder have skated away with 7 victories, including a thrilling 5–4 shootout on the road in December. As the season wraps up and the rink is released back into the ocean to join its iceberg family, Stockton’s Fan Appreciation night hooks up the first 500 people to arrive with a team poster to commemorate the event.
Since skating into existence in 2005, the Stockton Thunder have become synonymous with one thing: a passionate fan base. Every season, Thunder fans show up in droves at Stockton Arena to cheer and throw their hats onto the ice whenever a player gives the cold ears signal. In fact, the Thunder once led the ECHL in attendance for an unprecedented four straight seasons. Such unyielding support has certainly translated into on-ice success, as evidenced by the Thunder’s seemingly annual trip to the playoffs. In 2012–13, it all came together during a season that saw the Thunder capture their first Western Conference title and advance to the Kelly Cup finals.
