In keeping with the spirit of community, audience members are encouraged to bring canned goods, which the theater will donate to a local soup kitchen.
It’s the Revolutionary War, and two soldiers are lost. After miles spent wandering for food and shelter, the two finally stumble upon a village—and by all accounts, it’s perfect. Children dance and sing, men and women smile, and food is aplenty. Just one problem: the villagers aren’t willing to share. However, once the soldiers begin making their favorite meal, stone soup, they arouse curiosity and soon a flood of community spirit.
Before the show, an interactive arts workshop will give the audience a chance to explore the story more deeply. Therein, guests will learn about the original Stone Soup story and how Michael Sgouros and Brenda Bell transformed it for the stage. Families will also create a special work of art that they can take home as a souvenir.
