Story Pirates
Putting on a different show at every stage they sail into, the Story Pirates perform the works of some of the most brilliant minds in the world—children. The troupe visits grade schools across the country, where they coach kids through writing an entire script, then produce it right in front of them. But the fun doesn’t end there. They take the show on the road as well, often inviting the pint-sized creators along. At these bigger events, the Pirates are somtimes joined by high-profile guest stars, with past appearances from Conan O’Brien, Nick Offerman, and Lauren Lapkus. The end result is a creatively fulfilling experience for kids and adults alike that might feature anything from flying cats to rock ‘n’ roll-singing aliens.
McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage
Hailed as “the cultural center for greater DuPage County” by the Daily Herald, the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage provides a training ground for fledgling artists and an entertainment hub for the community. The center—affectionately referred to as “The MAC”—houses three theaters and an art gallery, each outfitted to host touring productions or lavish oil painting revues. Throughout the year, visitors can stop by to take in a play, sway to the beat during a concert, or peruse works by national and international artists.
