SVRA Amelia Island Vintage Gran Prix
Vintage Porsche and Jaguar automobiles roar by in a blazing streak of chrome, rubber, and racing stripes. Just behind it is a pack of sleek racing machines by MG and Triumph, each motoring furiously to catch and overtake the leaders. High overhead, a formation of vintage warplanes zips by to drown out the roar of the engines.
These will be the sights and sounds at the inaugural SVRA Amelia Island Vintage Gran Prix, a vintage auto race set to take place four days after the annual Ameila Island Concours d'Elegance. Cars dating from the Pre-War era up to 1980 will delight onlookers as they speed around the 2.1-mile track at Fernandina Beach Airport. The event even honors the motor races of old with hay bales and tires demarcating the track boundary, while vintage aircraft are scheduled to soar high overhead to complete the demonstration of 20th century horsepower.
