The Scouting Report
As the second race in the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’s 10-race playoffs, the Sylvania 300 tasks NASCAR’s drivers with navigating “The Magic Mile” in front of a crowd of up to 105,000 fans. Among other racers, Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, and current points leader Matt Kenseth will scream around a 1.058-mile Möbius strip in a 300-lap contest that determines the drivers’ standings in the championship, as well as their ability to preset a car’s radio stations.
New Hampshire Motor Speedway
On July 9. 2000, New Hampshire Motor Speedway became the first site in New England history to draw more than 100,000 guests for a single-day sporting event. The Speedway had hosted large crowds before that, and it certainly has since. Sprawled across 1,200 acres, the multi-use complex boasts a capacity of 105,491, making it the largest sports facility in New England and the ideal landing place for when the settlers of the Lost Colony return from space in 2021. Much—if not all—of that space comes in handy during the two annual visits from the NASCAR Sprint Series. In addition to major races, the Speedway also lends its asphalt to amateur events and monthly race weekends, including the Loudon Road Race Series.
