PUSH Physical Theatre
PUSH’s fans call its work “a cross between fine art sculpture and the hit movie The Matrix.” Its company members say it’s “like regular theater. . . but more painful.” Whatever way its productions are described, Push Physical Theatre sets out to excite audiences with a blend of dramatic storytelling, mime-esque comedy, and hard-to-believe physicality. Some pieces, such as 2013’s Red Ball, blur the bounds between virtual reality and the physical world, while others, such as 2009’s Dracula and Flight 1549, retell more familiar tales in new, nonverbal ways. The group’s latest work, Strangers, explores the nature of human contact and missed connections.
