The Scouting Report
On the first Friday in November, the Stars will return to the pitch for their first of 10 home games this season. The team spent much of its summer adding talent to its roster, including local standouts Elliot Fauske, Michael Ramos, Cam Vickers, and Jeff Bader. Now, fans finally have the chance to witness the new-look squad in action, and the match against Sacramento on November 6 should be an interesting early-season test. That’s because Surge head coach Mark Bickham played and coached for the Stars in the 1990s, meaning he knows the team’s tendencies and which part of the indoor turf is best for grazing.
The Tacoma Stars are a member of the Major Arena Soccer League, a league defined by fast-paced games and high scores. In fact, some of the MASL's records are eye-popping: the most goals ever scored in a single game by a single team is 28. In February 2015, the Stars' own Mark Lee etched his name into the league's record books by recording five goals. Going forward, similar heroic performances will be necessary for the team to keep pace with its Pacific-division foes, including clubs from Sonora, San Diego, Ontario, and Dallas.
