Tail! Spin!

The blatant ignominy on display in the scandalous political satire Tail! Spin! might seem unbelievable, but real life wrote the script. Five actors—four men as senators, representatives, and governors, and Rachel Dratch as their wives, mistresses, and Barbara Walterses—read the actual tweets, interview transcripts, and resignation announcements of some of the past decade’s high profile political downfalls. The absurd reality is woven together by playwright Mario Correa, the host of SiriusXM’s Entertainment Weekly Radio and a former congressional page.

There’s the tale of Representative Anthony “I Was Hacked” Weiner (Nate Smith), brought low by an ill-advised Twitpic. There’s Governor Mark “Appalachian Trail” Sanford (Tom Galantich), who explained away a weeklong disappearance with his mistress as a sudden passion for hiking. Larry “Wide Stance” Craig (Sean Dugan) found his vocal opposition to gay rights at odds with his conduct in public restrooms, and Mark “Underage Page” Foley (Arnie Burton) was caught between his correspondence with high school-age pages and his position as the chairman of the Missing and Exploited Children’s Caucus. Through all of the misconduct, SNL veteran Rachel Dratch connects the four by standing in as the women being betrayed, helping them betray, and interviewing the men about their betrayal.
