What You’ll Do
Goats are known their dog-like affection, propensity to yell like humans, and milk that produces tasty chevré. But this milk also makes for a moisturizing soap base, as instructor Tammy demonstrates during a two-hour soap-making workshop on her private goat dairy. Tammy concocts the base of the soap herself, mixing ingredients such as lye and goat milk while describing her process to the class. You’ll take home a customized bar along with a recipe that echoes her instruction.
Meet the Goats
Before the alchemizing begins, students will greet, pet, and issue in-person thank-yous to the source of their soaps’ most important ingredient: the goats who call Tammy’s dairy home.
Learn About Cold-Process Soap Making
Watch as Tammy demonstrates how raw milk combines with other ingredients to produce creamy, moisturizing soap. Gloves and goggles will be provided.
Mix the Soap
Participants pluck from an array of colors, fragrances, essential oils, and other add-ins to customize their soap.
Let It Cure
Once you’ve brought your bar home, give it three weeks before lathering up.
Caprine Crew Chief
Tammy’s spent almost two decades raising goats, and she’s spent 10 of those years crafting her own artisan bath products. As she told the Houston Chronicle, “Goats are my labor of love.” Indeed, in the last 5 years, she’s added cheese and other edible dairy products to her artisan portfolio, and she’s also become known in the area for her soap-making classes.
