The Scouting Report
Last season, the Stars entered the AHL playoffs as the defending Calder Cup champs, but their repeat attempt fell short early thanks to the scrappy spoilers of the RockFord IceHogs. This season, the squad hopes to reclaim their position as a legitimate championship contender behind the leadership of center Travis Morin and top prospect Devin Shore. During these early December matchups, the Stars will have a shot at redemption when the hated IceHogs deign to return to Cedar Park Center.
As the AHL affiliate of their big-league Dallas namesake, the Texas Stars spared no time claiming their birthright. In its very first season—2009–10—the team conquered the Western Conference, hoisting the Robert W. Clarke Trophy and earning a place in the Calder Cup finals. Since every faceoff was past the newborn Stars’ bedtime, they ultimately fell short of the league championship. The Stars eventually got redemption in 2014, when they captured the franchise's first Calder Cup after defeating the St. John's IceCaps in the championship series.
