The Blue Notes
Sharply dressed fellas decked out in matching suits, hot-stepping in synchronicity, and singing in celestial harmony about the ways of love—such is the old-school vision that “’70s Soul, Pop & Doo-Wop” seeks to bring back to the stage for a night of vintage Philadelphia soul. Headlining act Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes carry on the legacies of bellowing soul men Harold Melvin and Teddy Pendergrass with a flair for showmanship and vocal accord. Featuring the warm baritone of Donnell “Big Daddy” Gillespie and the tender tenor of Rufus “Fuss” Thorne, the group salutes their namesake with ballads such as “The Love I Lost,” “Wake Up Everybody,” and the disco-era staple “Don’t Leave Me This Way.”
James Stephens III: The Man of a Thousand Voices
- The man: a comedian, actor, singer, and musician who can slip in and out of voices as an expert impressionist. Stephens impersonates comedians Chris Rock and Bernie Mac one minute and past presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan in the blink of an eye.
- Where you’ve seen him: performing his crowd-pleasing acts on Comedy Central, HBO, and Showtime, and gracing major world stages like Carnegie Hall and the Grand Ole Opry
- What to expect: a high-energy show blending comedy, dance, and music, where Stephens will showcase his range, from singing classic Nat King Cole songs to fully inhabiting the stoner rap persona of Lil Wayne
