Nanki-Poo and Yum-Yum are in love. There’s just one problem—well, more like several: Yum-Yum is engaged to Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner, and Nanki-Poo is the son of the stern Mikado, who’s not much for flirtation. Not to mention that the Mikado has already decided that his son will wed the elderly Katisha. This comic opera by Gilbert & Sullivan satirizes English mores in a Japanese setting, entertaining audiences with romantic entanglements and upbeat songs about very dark subjects.
