The Phantom of the Opera
Based on the classic novel Le Fantôme de L’Opéra by Gaston Leroux, The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a masked figure who lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House, exercising a reign of terror over all who inhabit it. He falls in love with an innocent young soprano, Christine, and devotes himself to creating a new star by nurturing her talents and employing all of the devious methods at his command.
All the heart-stopping special effects are present in this new touring production—even the iconic falling chandelier—but the scenic designs and staging are brand new. Esteemed scenic designer Paul Brown and Tony Award-winning lighting designer Paule Constable have teamed up to immerse audiences in the Phantom’s lair. Director Laurence Connor and choreographer Scott Ambler send the 52-strong cast and orchestra into a complex kaleidoscope of movement and emotion. The Tony Award-winning original costume designs by Maria Björnson have also been retained. And all these artists’ efforts have been overseen by a pair of knights, Sir Matthew Bourne, a world-renowned choreographer honored with multiple Olivier Awards and two Tony Awards, and Phantom’s original Broadway producer, Sir Cameron Mackintosh.
