Canadian tribute group Abbamania faithfully recreates the experience of seeing the Swedish superstars in person. Monica Tietz and Michelle Truman intertwine vocals, channeling Anna and Frida while Nick Pattison picks up the guitar to don the role of Björn’s avatar and Matt Whale tickles faux-ivory keys as keyboardist Benny’s doppelgänger and unwitting alibi for all future crimes. Authentic, custom-made costumes evoke the ‘70s with gusto, and dance moves drawn from ABBA’s own concerts mimic the originals right down to each batted eyelash. Hits such as “Mamma Mia,” “Fernando,” and “Dancing Queen” spring forth from the stage with all the energy of their first performance and none of that new song smell.

Night Fever

Fortunately for fans without a time machine, Night Fever recreates the thrill of seeing The Bee Gees in concert, thanks to the considerable skills of three actor/musicians. Performers John Acosta (Barry Gibb), Joe Varga (Robin Gibb), and Carm Castiglione (Maurice Gibb) groove through Bee Gees catalogue staples such as “Jive Talking,” “More Than A Woman,” “Stayin’ Alive,” and the eponymous “Night Fever” as lights dazzle the crowd.
