The Spinners

Flag bearers of the Sweet Philly soul-music scene of the 1970s, The Spinners and their silky-smooth voices continue to build on their legend with a full-time touring schedule that features original member Henry Fambrough. Backed by a soulful instrumental ensemble, The Spinners bring to life a bygone era of earnest love songs and matching suits, performing coordinated dance moves and timeless hits from five certified-gold albums. Heartstrings longing to be pulled can savor the endlessly romantic “I’ll Be Around,” and audiences can feast their ears on a rendition of “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love,” lead by newer member Charlton Washington. Listeners might also hear the group’s bass-heavy reinterpretation of Sam Cooke’s “Cupid,” or its 1976 chart-topper, “The Rubberband Man,” an irresistibly danceable ballad that unites soul, funk, and disco.

This past March, The Spinners became a quartet with the tragic passing of original member Bobbie Smith–but the singers, and their tight-as-a-drum harmonies, carry on, winningly crooning the songs that Smith helped to make classics.
