####The State Capella of Russia Valeri Polyansky's Russian music credentials are about as impressive as they come. After graduating from the Moscow Conservatoire, he went on to conduct at the Bolshoi Theatre and work with greats such as Gennady Rozhdestvensky in between engagements from Iceland to Taiwan. His desire to render works of the classical canon in enormous, warm sound culminated in The State Capella of Russia, a merger of a symphony orchestra and a choir marked perhaps above all by a poetic but precise vocal technique. Today, the group travels the globe, performing masterpieces by the likes of Mozart, Schubert, Britten, and Brahms. With "Russian Christmas," the Capella presents its first U.S. holiday tour. The program includes works written for choir and singing Santa doll by Rachmaninoff, Bortnyansky, and Grechaninoff, as well as some classics by Western composers—but the classic holiday tunes are the big draw. The choir's ice-sculpture-clear voices entwine around some of the world's most magnificent traditional carols and hymns. ####Lehman Center for the Performing Arts Lehman Center for the Performing Arts hosts a lot of firsts. From Jose Feliciano to Russian music institutions, many performing artists have never set played in the Bronx before they come to the Center. That reality is part of what prompted its founding in the first place three decades ago, in an effort to prove that borough residents didn't have to travel to Manhattan or tunnel inside their television sets to experience diverse, live cultural programming. So far, that's included concerts by luminaries such as Smokey Robinson, Patti LaBelle, and Johnny Mathis in addition to folk dance, ballet, and Latino comedy showcases.
“The performance was great but they need to be more organized when it comes to picking up your tickets.”
“Even though the groupon price was 100% more expensive than the actual ticket price on the concert day, the venue was amazing and so was the performance.”
