Emma, Simon, and Lachy have big shirts to fill. Their color-coded predecessors toured for 21 years as the original Wiggles, who became known worldwide as “the world’s biggest preschool rock band.” With the help of Anthony, the original blue Wiggle, the new quartet uses songs, games, and storytelling to encourage participation from pint-size audience members, fostering a sense of youthful empowerment usually found only in preteen monarchs. Although the gang’s faces have changed, their beloved character friends have stuck around, from the friendly pirate Captain Feathersword to Dorothy the rose-eating Dinosaur and Wags the Dog. Another thing that hasn’t changed: the group’s knack for catchy and engaging tunes designed to get kids singing, thinking, grinning, and, yes, wiggling.
For The Rock n’ Roll Preschool tour, The Wiggles add even more irresistible ditties. Taken from their latest CD and DVD, the appropriately-titled Rock ‘n Roll Preschool, new songs include “That’s the Sound of Rock & Roll,”“Wake Up!,” “Dance with Emma,” and “I Want a Leather Jacket.” Of course, these will appear alongside Wiggles classics such as “Hot Potato!” and the aeronautical engineer’s anthem, “Do the Propeller.”
