It’s a classic Christmas tale, updated for a new generation. One Christmas, a young girl receives a colorful nutcracker from her wizardly godfather, and soon discovers that there’s more to the toy than opening walnuts. When everyone else has gone to bed, the nutcracker comes to life, and the girl is caught up in a battle between toy and rodent, then whisked away to a world of wintry magic and wonder. In this dance production, the LaNita Joseph Dance Company introduces hip-hop influences to the mix, so when these sugarplum fairies start dancing, it’s to the beat of African music and jazz.
