A Light in the Dark
To tell the story of Anne Sullivan meeting Helen Keller, Thodos Dance Chicago founder Melissa Thodos and legendary dancer and Broadway star Ann Reinking joined forces. What results is a story ballet that both paints a picture of a girl tormented by her desire to learn and details the events that led Sullivan to become such a great caretaker. And their efforts, complemented by Bruce Wolosoff’s original score, have garnered praise, with the Chicago Tribune calling the work “a visceral illustration of the power of dance to enlighten.”
A Light in the Dark doesn’t dance alone, though. The program also includes three short company pieces that encompass themes ranging from lost love (Near Light) to the power of memory (Memoirs).
