Overall, the show was pretty good. Cute theme, good music. I was, however, disappointed with the costumes. They looked very home sewn. Aside from that, would recommend to others for a different kind of date night.

The venue was perfect except for the discomfort of the lack of heat. I would only attend in the summer or maybe spring/ fall. Never in the winter again. I was almost enjoying myself but it was sooooo cold!!!

What You'll Get

Burlesque dancers raise temperatures with their cunning movements and bawdy humor, unlike the cold shoulders and bleak monologues doled out by burlesque figure skaters. Keep warm with this deal to see “Burlesque As It Was,” presented by The Tennessee Tease Burlesque at Newby’s. For $15, you get two general-admission tickets on Friday, March 9, at 9 p.m. (a $30 value). Doors open at 8 p.m.

The Tennessee Tease Burlesque’s talented troupe of performers sashays through time in “Burlesque As It Was,” a glamorous tribute to the golden age of theatrical defrocking certain to rouse audiences and fog historians’ glasses. Before relinquishing the stage to the ladies and gentlemen of The Tennessee Tease, the Side Street Steppers launch the evening into full vaudevillian swing with a set of old-timey barn stompers swirling with banjo, mandolin, and standup bass. While sipping on favorite drinks, attendees can hoot, holler, and shout out instructions from carburetor-repair manuals to demonstrate their support for performers, whose curvy silhouettes strut across the stage donned in elaborate costumes while backed by vintage songs. Creative stage names, such as Fatty McClure and Aenya Little Fyre, infuse an extra dose of humor into the playful performance, which also includes fire stunts and scintillating props such as feather fans. Additionally, Newby’s intimate setup enables guests to get close enough to the stage to hear every note and confirm the sweet-smelling host’s rumored devotion to stuffing his pockets with magazine cologne samples and horsehair.
