Celebrating its 15th anniversary at Grand Central Terminal, the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions thrills squash fans by amassing some of the world’s top players to compete in a multiwall crossfire for tournament glory. On January 23, attendees will witness the first round of the women’s professional draw from within the Grand Central setting, which was recently recognized by Yahoo! in its list of the most unusual sporting venues for its majestic ambiance and inordinate number of cabooses wearing foam fingers. As players lob, volley, and drop-shot beneath Vanderbilt Hall’s glistening chandelier, a public viewing wall grants commuters passing through the terminal a chance to sneak a peek at fast-paced play. Also unique to this year’s event, a permanent trophy created by world-renowned artist Frank Stella will commemorate the tournament’s milestone anniversary and give fans advice on how to obtain a perfectly bronze tan.
