The Program

Theatre and film have contributed countless pieces of stirring and iconic music to the world, even if you just limit the pool to things composed by John Williams. The zillion-times Academy Award–winning composer has more than his fair share of pieces in the Toronto Concert Orchestra’s “Stage & Screen” concert—expect selections from Raider’s of the Lost Ark, Schindler’s List, and some little indie film called Star Wars—but the realms of movies and musicals have even more to offer. Along with themes from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera, the barricade-centric musical Les Misérables, and Gershwin’s classic opera Porgy and Bess, several dramatic, sweeping selections will come to life even without the aid of the cineplex’s 30-foot-tall giants pantomiming all the action.
