The Seven Deadly Sins
- The Program: Pieces by Andrew Balfour, Samuel Barber, and Bela Bartók—including Bartók’s Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta—followed by a semi-staged production of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht’s The Seven Deadly Sins.
- The Seven Deadly Sins: The plot of this satirical ballet chanté (“sung ballet”) transposes each of the seven deadly sins to a short scene set in a different American city. Throughout the libretto, the heroines—twin sisters—travel from city to city as they try to raise money for their family, encountering the sins on their way.
- The Conductor: Peter Oundjian. This Toronto-born conductor is the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s current Music Director, and he’s coaxed powerful performances from symphonies the world over. His career has included stints as the Music Director for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (2012), Principal Guest Conductor of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (2006–2010), and Artistic Director of the Caramoor International Music Festival in New York (1997–2007).
