The Rhode Island Stage Ensemble heralds the holiday season with a hilarious spinoff of Charles Dickens’s classic A Christmas Carol, in which Ebenezer Scrooge reverts to his cantankerous ways and sues Jacob Marley for breaking and entering. Playwright Mark Brown and director Rich Ferron’s irreverent treatment pits Scrooge against Marley and his three spectral companions in a premise that makes mincemeat of the original story’s moralizing. The penny-pinching Scrooge exchanges his nightcap for a powdered barrister’s wig as he exchanges pithy arguments with his clever counterpart, Simon Rothschild.
A nonprofit production company based on the principles of artistic freedom and creative collaboration, the Rhode Island Stage Ensemble has recently relocated to Northern Rhode Island after four years of being pelted with incessant postshow rose bouquets in Providence. The charismatic cast now takes the stage at The Assembly Theater, an intimate playhouse whose own ghosts vow to eternally spook audience members who root for Scrooge.
Though RISE offers discounts for students and seniors, this deal still offers the best deal available for all customers.

About The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge
Artistic freedom and creative collaboration are the cornerstones of the Rhode Island Stage Ensemble. The young non-profit grew out of the pooled talents of performers, fundraisers, marketers, and designers who were all fluent in theatre, yet wary of professional theatre's limitations. So the group carved their own path, staging everything from edgy interpretations of Shakespeare to seldom-seen plays by the likes of Wilder, inviting the community to partake along the way. Now, the theater group is a cornerstone of the Woonsocket, RI arts community, offering affordable performances and high-quality education programs for children and adults.
