The Scouting Report
Most recently, the Bruins’ hardcourt heroes extended their winning streak to six—and improving their already-impressive record to 19–3—when they swept Concordia on March 11. But before the postseason can begin in mid April, the #4-ranked Bruins will have to survive a harsh weekend of back-to-back challenges against #3 Stanford and #9 Pepperdine. During these final matches, middle blocker Mitch Stahl will also have a chance to secure his spot among the country’s stat leaders, no doubt using his 6’7” frame to rack up blocks and swat away any squirrels trying to scurry across the net.
Since 1919, UCLA's storied athletic program has produced a slew of top-caliber athletes, including many Olympians and professional legends. With a women's water polo title in 2007, UCLA became the first school to win 100 NCAA team titles. Over the years, school alumni have netted an unprecedented 250 Olympic medals. Former UCLA athletes have also gone on to become baseball superstars, basketball legends, and all-pro fantasy-football coaches. The Bruins football team plays its home games in the hallowed Rose Bowl Stadium, which has hosted five NFL Pro Bowls, Olympic and World Cup soccer matches, and multiple BCS National Championship games.
