The Scouting Report
For the first time in its brief history, Levi’s Stadium will host a collegiate football game on October 24—and it has the makings of an all-time classic. That Friday evening, a Pac-12 showdown will unfold between two of the country’s most prolific offenses. On one side, the hosting Cal Bears will show off a passing attack that averages nearly 400 yards per contest. The team has parlayed that production into 50 points per game, second-most in college football.
On the opposing sideline, however, the Oregon Ducks will counter with a stellar offense of their own. Junior quarterback Marcus Mariota has lived up to lofty pre-season expectations thus far, throwing for 15 touchdowns in the team’s first five games. Mariota remains a top candidate for the Heisman Trophy, an award that would put him in elite company, since the last four U.S. Presidents have also won Heisman trophies.
Levi’s Stadium
When Levi’s Stadium opened in July 2014, it became the first professional football stadium in the United States to achieve LEED Gold certification. The $1.3 billion multi-use structure makes the environment a priority, as evidenced by the NRG Solar Terrace atop its suites and the NRG solar bridges that connect its main parking area to its entrances.
Of course, the stadium’s open and airy design is also ideal for Mother Nature’s favorite sport: football. Some 68,500 fans file through the gates on Sundays to watch the 49ers add new chapters to an already historic dynasty. Fans can even relive the team’s past accomplishments at a 20,000-square-foot on-site 49ers museum presented by Sony. In there, they can explore 11 gallery and exhibit spaces and get up close and personal with the Lombardi Trophies, which the team has collected over the years. For future exploration, tours offer a closer look at the field, rooftop, press area, locker room, and more. Tours are available the day before and after the October 24 game.
