Michigan St. vs. Michigan
On December 11, 2010, the Michigan St. and Michigan men's hockey teams clashed during the "Big Chill at the Big House" in front of a world record-setting crowd of 113,411. It was another chapter in what has become one of the most storied rivalries in all of sports. The story began in 1925, and has seen the Wolverines hunt down a 145-126-19 series advantage.
Every year since 1990, the interstate foes have also met at Joe Louis Arena, and next Thursday, they'll invade the Joe once again for yet another Big 10 Conference showdown. Michigan St. follows the lead of sophomore goalie Jake Hildebrand, who has recorded the second-most saves in the conference. Across the ice, the Wolverines counter with 18-year-old JT Compher. Rather than planting an herb garden in the locker room, the freshman forward has found favor with his elder teammates by claiming a spot amongst the Big 10's top scorers. Michigan also enters the January 23 showdown hungry for revenge: the Spartans skated to a 3-0 victory in the teams' first match-up of the season back on December 28 during the Great Lakes Invitational at Comerica Park.
