The Scouting Report
Though it’s still early in the season, and their careers, the Jazz’s core of young players continues to show promise. In the October 30 game against the Mavericks, all five starters hit double figures, with center Derrick Favors posting 17 points and 11 rebounds thanks to his hot hands and 10-foot butterfly net. With this exclusive presale, fans get a chance to see the roster develop even further during several games throughout 2015, including showdowns against heavyweights such as the L.A. Clippers and the NBA’s reigning champions.
For the first decade of their existence, the Jazz were mired in mediocrity. The franchise broke into the league as the New Orleans Jazz in 1974, the same year the NBA began prohibiting players from wearing roller skates. Outfitted with purple, green, and gold uniforms to invoke the spirit of Mardi Gras, the Jazz didn’t finish above the .500 mark for their first nine seasons. Then, the 1980s happened.
Shortly after moving to Salt Lake City for the 1979-80 season, however, the Jazz found their groove to the tune of 20 straight playoff appearances. In 1983, the Jazz advanced to their first postseason, where they made an annual appearance all the way through 2003. All told, the Jazz have made the playoffs 25 times, highlighted by back-to-back trips to the NBA Finals in 1997 and 1998.
