Miley Cyrus. Jacob the Bar Mitzvah boy. Ms. Meadows, an enthusiastic poetry teacher. These are just a few of the many characters Vanessa Bayer has embodied during her tenure on Saturday Night Live, a job she landed after studying and performing at Chicago comedy institutions The Second City, The Annoyance, and iO. And she hasn’t confined her comedic chops to the show, either. She’s popped up on Portlandia alongside SNL alum Fred Armisen, co-created the web series Sound Advice with Janessa Slater, and will co-star in Amy Schumer’s feature film, Trainwreck.
During The Onion & A.V. Club’s The 2nd Annual 26th Annual Comedy, she returns to the city that launched her career for an evening of celebrity impressions and quirky characters, all infused with her signature congeniality. Opening for her: local comedian-turned late-night regular Michael Palascak, who’s appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
