What You’ll Do

Bees sting and swarm, which can make them seem scary—but they do a lot of good, too. In this three-hour class, artist and gardener Vera Johnson demystifies the art of beekeeping, unveils the inner-workings of a beehive, and shows you how to introduce a hive or two into your garden. At the end of the class, you’ll leave with the information needed to have a honey-filled 2015, not to mention a few beekeeper pals who can help you make it happen.

  Learn the lifecycle of the honey bee, and—if weather permits—peer into a hive to see larvae, drones, and maybe even the queen.

• Tips and Tricks
  Learn how much honey you can remove from a hive, what to do in the event of a swarm, and other vital dos and don’ts.

• Learn to Keep Your Own Bees
  Vera also discusses tools and equipment, hive maintenance, bee health, and how to properly cite buzzing buddies in your yard.
