The Scouting Report
The Sharks took retooling seriously this offseason, putting a number of fresh faces front and center. They picked up former New Jersey head coach Peter DeBoer. They named 25-year-old Martin Jones their number-one goalie. And though Jones—with only 34 games of NHL experience—remains a relative unknown, many of the team’s other young players already began to show promise last season. Take center Tomas Hertl, who kicked off his rookie campaign with 15 goals in 37 games and produced another 13 goals and 18 assists last season. This slate of preseason matchups should give fans their first glimpses at how well the new-look team works together on offense, defense, and between-period snack runs.
