A Guide to Gameday at Scott Stadium
- When to start tailgating: Students take to The Lawn, a former part of Thomas Jefferson’s Academic Village that becomes a land of coolers on game day. Families will have a better time at the Cavalier Countdown at Alumni Hall, where marching bands and gameday festivities start three hours before kickoff
- Dazzle your friends with stadium facts and figures. Here’s a good start: Constructed in 1931, it’s the oldest active football stadium in Virginia. Capacity of 61,500. Tied with the Chicago Bears’ Soldier Field as the 69th largest stadium by capacity in America
- Where to park: Public parking in the UVA Emmet/Ivy Garage and Health System Parking Garage at 15th and Monroe Street will set you back $10-15, is 10–15 miles from the stadium, and opens three hours before game time. Or try the downtown Market Street garage or Water Street garage ($10-15), conveniently located next to the stadium shuttles ($5, exact change)
