Second City’s 55th Anniversary Tour

In its 55 years, The Second City has revolutionized comedy in North America and across the globe, graduating alumni who include the likes of Gilda Radner, Harold Ramis, Tina Fey, and Stephen Colbert. In addition to funneling these performers and more to Saturday Night Live! and Hollywood at large, it’s also famous for its tours, cruise ships, and legendary SCTV program. Today, its network of theaters and schools have set up shop in everywhere from Chicago to Los Angeles and Toronto.

In celebration of its storied history, three of The Second City’s most lauded ensembles—GreenCo, RedCo, and BlueCo—will showcase the short-form improv and scripted scenes their collective is renowned for. Each six-person cast will present a mix of sketches and unscripted, audience-inspired ad-libs, filling the aisles with guffaws and preventing the theaters owners from having to release laughing gas from the air vents.

Marcus Center for the Performing Arts

During the day, the concrete heights of the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts tower over the waters of the Milwaukee River like an imposing, postmodern fortress. As night falls, however, and patrons meander toward their evening’s entertainment, the building’s façade glows with colorful, scintillating lights that hint at the eclectic performances inside. The elegant Uihlein Hall regularly hosts such august organizations as the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Florentine Opera Company, whereas smaller, more intimate venues such as the Todd Wehr Theater situate audiences close to the stage so they can immerse themselves in dramas or hear the wail of a set builder who smashed his thumb with a hammer.
