Warrant: After getting Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich off their 1989 debut album of the same name (featuring the power-balled, “Heaven”), this L.A. hair-metal act went double-platinum and shook off the sophomore slump with 1990’s “Cherry Pie,” which introduced an entire generation to food-based entendre.
L.A. Guns: Okay.”Guns” stands for founding guitarist Tracii Guns. And you know that “Guns” in “Guns and Roses?” It’s similar, because G’NR was founded with members of L.A. Guns—although Tracii Guns was replaced by Slash, while other members were playing Red Rover with acts such as Faster Pussycat and W.A.S.P. Aside from the complex name games, this highly influential glam-rock band gave us hits such as “The Ballad of Jayne” and “Rip and Tear.”
Ratt: This fixture of the Sunset Strip glam-metal circuit rose to multi-platinum stardom above their hairsprayed peers with a bluesy-hard rock fusion of Judas Priest’s nitro and Aerosmith’s promiscuous slither, resulting in Billboard hits such as “Round and Round” and “Wanted Man.”
