The brainchild of renowned Shakespearean actor and director Tina Packer, Women of Will explores the Bard's treatment of women in an intensive five-part melding of acting and analysis. As the founding artistic director of Lenox, Massachusetts' famed Shakespeare & Company, Packer has spent decades mulling over the playwright’s works, directing nearly all of them and taking the stage numerous times. She now joins with veteran actor Nigel Gore to add new dimension to the plays' portrayal of women. The night begins with three contrasting renditions of Kate's problematically servile speech at the end of The Taming of the Shrew, and continues to challenge and intrigue the audience from there.

As the evening progresses, Packer explores such themes as women's relationship to violence, sexual versus spiritual interactions, and the societal constraints imposed on Shakespeare's heroines, each illustrated with scenes and monologues from the plays. Between expertly acted vignettes—which the New York Times praised as "not just poetry in motion, [but] thought made flesh"—Packer and Gore share insight into the onstage action, probing the characters' psychological depths and analyzing the text they speak.
