The Scouting Report
Though the Sharks have played their last regular-season game ever in Worcester, fans still have the chance to catch their team in action at the DCU Center. That’s because this Friday, the Sharks will make their first playoff appearance since 2010, squaring off against the Hershey Bears in the AHL Eastern Conference quarterfinals. The best-of-five series figures to be a tight contest: the teams split their regular-season games 2-2-0, and both squads have relied heavily on a rookie goalie. Between the pipes for the Sharks, Aaron Dell posted the league’s fifth-best save percentage by turning away even the most polite pucks trying to enter the net.
In 2006, the NHL's San Jose Sharks moved their eponymous AHL affiliate to Worcester. The Sharks have helped foster some of the game's best talent, highlighted by Stanley Cup champions and first-round draft picks. Nearly 40 players, including Claude Lemieux and Thomas Greiss, have donned the Worcester sweater before getting the call to clean out their lockers and playoff beards and head to San Jose. The team has even been represented on an international stage, as several former Sharks competed during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
