Young Dolph: the southern hardcore rapper may hail from Tennessee, but he introduced himself to the world on Colonel Loud’s “California”—shortly afterward, he released his debut studio album King of Memphis, a featureless tour de force of infectious beats and ruthless rhymes.
J-Kwon: In 2004, J-Kwon informed the world what people in the club were doing: gettin’ tipsy. That breakthrough track peaked at no. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and anchored the first of four albums released by the rapper between 2004–2010.
Murphy Lee: A standout member of the St. Lunatics, Murphy Lee established himself as a solo star in the early 2000s by teaming up with Nelly and P. Diddy on the Grammy-winning hit “Shake Ya Tailfeather.” That song appeared on his debut album, Murphy’s Law, which peaked at no. 8 on the U.S. charts.
