Comedy club continues 36-year tradition with upcoming month's grab bag of humorists & storytellers
Without laughter, knock-knocks would only reveal door-to-door salesmen and the Tickle Monster would have to change his name to the “Socially Awkward Monster.” Revel in uninhibited laughs with this deal to Yuk Yuk’s. For $22, you get two general-admission tickets to any Friday evening comedy show in June (a $45 value, including tax). These shows take place at 7:30 p.m., and doors open at 6:30 p.m. Choose from the following shows:
- Tracey MacDonald, Peter Grunstra, and Roy Daye on June 1
- John Wing, Topher Harrison, and Heidi Foss on June 8
- Martha Chaves, Tim Nasiopoulos, and Wafik Nasralla on June 15
- Sam Easton, Jon Steinberg, and Dylan Mandlsohn on June 22
- Ron Josol, Eric Andrews, and Steve Dylan on June 29<p>
Since its Toronto location opened in 1976, Yuk Yuk’s has been a collective launching pad for such comedy heavyweights as Jim Carrey, Rick Moranis, and Russell Peters. This June, seasoned jokesters and up-and-coming comedians featured on radio and television will grab hold of the mic to wipe the glum off faces. Tracey MacDonald’s (June 1) neurotic humour rears its head during her tongue-in-cheek stories about moving to the United States and her first encounter with Starbucks, which she explained to host Byron Allen on the show Comics Unleashed, and funnyman John Wing (June 8) bares his romantic soul, as heard in his song “I Hope You Die” on The Bob and Tom Show. Born and raised in Nicaragua, the quick-witted and sassy Martha Chaves (June 15) bemoans the glut of traditional cleaning-lady roles before Sam Easton (June 22) rouses audiences with his confrontational yet self-deprecating style. Rounding out the month, Ron Josol (June 29) muses on the rarity of being a Filipino-Canadian comedian, all without skimping on the raunchiness. Although not included with this deal, a buffet dinner is available an hour before the show for $18.99, and a full bar with an à la carte menu stays open until the end of the show.
