About A Chat with Glace Chase’s Dream Queen Tours
What makes your business stand out? I’m a multiple award winning playwright, performer, comic and Total Bottom! So hosting interactive comedy tours around NYC is always gonna be a bit special & unique with me steering the ship! I take great pleasure in giving people a truly memorable fun and hysterical experience.
What inspired you or the owner (if that’s not you) to start or run this business? My sister came to visit from Australia and she wanted to go to the Empire State. I loathe heights AND crowds so I said I’d only do it in full drag. So one night a gaggle of queens and my sister went to the top of the Empire State. After I subdued my urge to throw myself off (that building does dark things to me) - i noticed the amount of people coming up and taking photos and having a laugh. What a great new entertainment idea I thought. Showing tourists and locals alike new experiences & new ways to see the city.
What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a customer? Breakfast in bed!! But there are so many - the one that really sticks in my mind is a Lesbian couple from Israel crying and hugging me after I talked about the loss of our people to AIDS (one of them had worked in nursing at the height of the epidemic). They hugged me and we cried together. I often get emotional talking about HIV and AIDS the lack of compassion at that time- but that day we three were a blubbering mess. Otherwise - god the amount of people saying that it is the funniest thing they’ve done- the most unique experience of NYC - it’s overwhelming.
What’s your favorite part about your job? Truthfully- it’s communing with people!! Tours are intentionally pretty small - so by the end we’ve all gotten to known each other. Finding out people's different stories- absorbing their energies- and together carving out FUN - its a total delight! Honestly I’ve had real friendships grow out of the tour. I wish I could be a everyone’s close friend- but I’m only one bottom and I like to share myself around! I still get annoyed that it’s just not possible to be everyone’s friend - there’s not enough time!!
