A Chat with Glacial Ridge Winery
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition? Located on scenic Glacial Ridge Trail in the lakes area of central Minnesota, our park-like setting and quaint rustic winery building provide a fun and unique experience for our guests. Our cozy setting and warm hospitality will make you feel at home. Open year around allows us to be a host-site for many fun events including our outdoor Thursday night summer concert series, Friday night winter soup and music, weddings, graduations, fundraisers, and private parties. Our award winning wines are hand crafted on site using mostly Minnesota grapes and apples from our apple orchard. We also have a tasting station and sell olive oils and balsamic vinegars imported from Italy and locally infused. If you’re hungry, we have pizzas, and other delicious snack plate to enjoy along with our delectable wines.
What is one of your most popular offerings? How is it prepared? Our most popular red wine is Castle Red which is produced from the Granddaddy of Minnesota grapes- Frontenac. Castle Red is made in the rose’ style which gives it a touch of sweetness thus appealing to both the sweet wine drinkers and also those that like it a little dry. It is dark, aromatic and very, very tasty. We had fun with the label which features a local B&B that hosts murder mystery dinners, so we used wax to seal the top and let it drip like blood with splashes of blood found within the label.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business? Owner’s Ron and Kimberly had a family in California, and when they would visit they would go to a different winery every day. They fell in love with the whole winery experience and wanted to bring that back to their home to share with others. With their apple orchard property, they were able to expand their facilities for wine production, tasting room and event center.
What do you love most about your job? Meeting new people from all over and making new friends. Everyone comes in happy and leaves happier!
