Though canines love tennis for its bouncy yellow balls, humans appreciate the freedom to bark loudly with each swing and bury their favorite rackets all over the court. Become a tennis beast with today's Groupon: for $50, you get three seasons of competitive tennis matches from Gladiator Tennis League, which operates across the Chicagoland area (a $105 value).
Gladiator Tennis lets current, former, and new tennis players get their fuzzy-orb-smashing kicks by playing in a professionally run league devoid of membership fees and court costs. After taking a short online survey to establish their skill level, eager racket swingers pick their home court from more than 100 net-divided rectangles in the north, northwest, west, and southwest suburbs.
Half of the matches are played at home and half are played at courts no more than a 20-minute drive away. Match times are arranged by the players themselves within set two-week windows, and every season consists of seven matches. Top-division players and the top 16 players in each skill level get to face off in the Gladiator playoffs, competing for highly coveted prizes such as a Gladiator bag tag, a tennis trophy disguised as a spelling-bee trophy, and a free season of league play. The first season runs from April 4 through June 5, the summer season from June 6 through July 31, and the final season from August 1 through early to mid-October.
Players are required to provide a new can of tennis balls for each home court match.
