What You'll Get
Glass provides a resting place for wine, evening wear for Cinderellas, and a more dramatic exit from 44th-floor windows for Bruce Willises. Shatter artistic inhibitions with today's Groupon for glass-art classes at The Glass Garden in Janesville, Wisconsin. Choose between two options:
For $17, you get a two-hour pendant-making class, including materials (a $35 value). This class is offered Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. or on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Check online for upcoming dates.
For $22, you get a mosaic-glass-block class, including lunch and all materials except for stained glass (a $45 value). This class is offered on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Check online for upcoming dates.
The Glass Garden's instructors help students illuminate everyday objects with a spectrum of glass-art classes. In each two-hour pendant class, students layer up to three colors of fusible glass to create three 1"x1" pendants that instructors then fire in a kiln, melting the glass to merge hues and create multitextured, organic shapes, some of which mysteriously resemble Millard Fillmore. Alternatively, in the mosaic class, students will cut sheets of colored glass (not included with today's Groupon) according to a provided pattern, then paste them to the front of a three-dimensional glass block with No Days adhesive, filling in-between spaces with grout. Students can insert a light (not included with today's Groupon) into the hole at the center of the block so that its colors glow from within, or fill the void with loose change and other baubles. For those who don't already wear glasses, Glass Garden advises students to bring safety glasses or a head bubble to protect their eyes.

About The Glass Garden
The Glass Garden's 3,600-square-foot space is an incubator for multicolored mosaics, stained-glass artwork, decorative lamps, and translucent art of all sorts. In the spacious studio, students learn how to craft their own stained-glass pieces during beginners' classes led by knowledgeable instructors. They're taught how to design patterns, cut glass, and solder it all together to create a window panel with colors that play with the light like an interrogator plays with a neurotic suspect. They can advance their skills during continuing classes and purchase materials from The Glass Garden's in-house shop. The facility also offers completed art for sale, including lamps, panels, and custom-made pieces.
