Choose from Four Options

  • $12 for a one-time, "try-it" pottery lesson for one (a $25 value)
  • $22 for a one-time, "try-it" pottery lesson for two (a $50 value)

"Try-it" lessons last up to an hour, during which students use approximately 3 pounds of clay along with any studio tools and equipment they need to create, glaze, and fire functional pottery pieces.

  • $45 for an introduction to the pottery wheel class for one (a $99 value)
  • $85 for an introduction to the pottery wheel class for two (a $198 value)

Over three 90-minute group sessions (4.5 hours total), students learn the basics of wheel-throwing, using up to 15 pounds of clay before handing over their creations for firing.

Standard glazes and firing are included with all options, although customers can upgrade to a specialty glaze for an additional charge. Extra clay will be available for purchase.

Sykesville Pottery and Art Center

Inside the new digs of Sykesville Pottery and Art Center, visitors get to indulge in a variety of artistic endeavors, no matter their experience level. The paint-your-own-pottery area beckons participants to select from 200 bisque pieces such as vases, platters, and teapots that they can decorate with pictures and texts of their choosing. Students can even make their own pieces using a pottery wheel in a variety of classes. Glass fusing allows artists to meld disparate pieces of glass together to form inimitable designs or crystal balls that don’t work, and Tiny Hands crafts invites youngsters aged 2–6 to delve into creative projects they can share with their families.
