Georges Seurat's masterpiece "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" altered the landscape of modern painting and is one of the world's most recognizable works of art. In a mesmerizing hat trick of narrative and song-craft, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Sunday in the Park With George tells the story behind this incredible piece while simultaneously delving into the lives of its subjects, who were members of different French social classes enjoying a day out in the park. Making its South Florida debut at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami, Sunday in the Park With George traverses history, pairing Seurat's struggles to complete the painting with the thematically similar foibles of a contemporary descendant named George. The result is one of the most innovative musicals to ever emerge from Broadway, and a deeply personal statement on what it means to make meaningful art.
