There's no better way to experience Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream than under the stars in the gardens of the historic Charles Carroll House with Annapolis Shakespeare Company's production. This whimsical story of romance, mischief and magic follows four young lovers into the woods on a midsummer's night as they become the unwitting victims in a lover's quarrel between the king and queen of faeries. When a group of local folk rehearsing a play in the forest also gets caught up in the madness, the comical snarl of spells seems impossible to sort out. But with fairies and sprites all around, it just takes a little more magic, and as Puck puts it, "all is mended." This production, co-directed by ASC artistic director Sally Boyett and Tony Award nominee Donald Hicken, transplants one of Shakespeare's most loved plays to 18th century Annapolis, paying homage to the rich history of the Carroll House.
