What You'll Get
The Colorado Symphony's Inside the Score series returns with Dvorak's Ninth, famously known as the New World Symphony. Associate conductor Christopher Dragon goes behind the music to explore the influences behind the Czech composer's masterwork, which include Native American melodies, African-American spirituals and the wide-open spaces of Iowa. Commissioned by the New York Philharmonic, the work premiered at Carnegie Hall in December of 1893, and quickly became one of the most popular pieces of classical music ever written. In fact, Neil Armstrong famously took a recording of it with him to the moon.
